In accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Education requirements, each full credit represents exactly 110 scheduled instructional hours, and prerequisites must be strictly verified prior to course enrollment. Students may utilize Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) or Mature Student Assessment (MSA) pathways where applicable.

[ICS3U]  Introduction to Computer Science, Grade 11 (University Preparation)

Course Description: This course introduces students to computer science concepts and software engineering principles. Students will design and write computer programs using standard industry programming languages (such as Python and Java) to solve structured algorithmic problems. Students will develop creative problem-solving skills, learn logical control structures, write modular methods, and explore database systems. They will also investigate environmental and ergonomic issues related to technology, alongside exploring postsecondary education and career paths in computing.

Domestic Prerequisite: None.

International Prerequisite: None.

PLAR & MSA Admissions Pathways: Continuous enrollment is open. Out-of-province or overseas student placement is determined via PLAR Equivalency (Form OSR-PLAR-01). Mature students over 18 may write the MSA Online Evaluation to establish general admission baselines.

Academic Audit & Implementation Notes: Excellent elective course for students seeking to build software design and coding literacy. This course serves as the mandatory prerequisite for senior Grade 12 Computer Science (ICS4U).

Course Description: This course furthers students’ understanding of computer science concepts and object-oriented programming. Students will write complex programs using advanced algorithms, data structures (such as arrays, stacks, and queues), and advanced software engineering design patterns. Students will collaborate in teams to manage software projects using formal development lifecycles. They will also analyze emerging computer research, investigate ethical and legal implications of computing, and explore careers in artificial intelligence, software architecture, and cybersecurity.

Domestic Prerequisite: Introduction to Computer Science, Grade 11, University Preparation (ICS3U).

International Prerequisite: Evaluated equivalent of Grade 11 Computer Science (ICS3U) verified via translated certified transcript and PLAR.

PLAR & MSA Admissions Pathways: Equivalency evaluation is processed via Form OSR-PLAR-01. Prerequisite waivers (Form OSR-WAIVE-01) may be processed at the Principal’s professional discretion for students demonstrating equivalent coding credentials or software certifications.

Academic Audit & Implementation Notes: A core university admission elective for software engineering, computer engineering, data science, and computer science programs. Proctored final examinations are required.

  2. Step 2: Admissions Assessment Our Registration Team will carefully review your application and verify your academic prerequisites. Please allow 2 to 3 business days for this assessment process.

  3. Step 3: Receive Decision & Pay Tuition You will receive an email with your admission decision. If approved, this email will contain your official Offer of Admission, your tuition invoice, and secure instructions on how to pay your fee.

  4. 🎓 Step 4: Complete Enrollment Once your fee payment is successfully processed, your enrollment is finalized! You will receive your Enrolment Contract, Letter of Acceptance (LOA), and immediate access to your course materials on techstudy.ca.
